following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

solimano returns to his unlock recordings imprint with two mellow house cuts, featuring a pair of imaginative reinterpretations from fellow argentinean’s barem and deep mariano. originally established to promote latin american productions in 2004, unlock recordings has since hosted the likes of jorge savoretti and guti. its founder, gonzalo solimano, has proven himself time again as a label owner, dj and producer, working as a ‘mr. x’ at red bull academy for almost ten years when not performing at the likes of creamfields buenos aires, south american music conference and space world tour. ‘learjet’ is a low-slung groover complete with organic samples, bass guitar licks and a hypnotically looped vocal sample. up first on remix duties, minus regular barem subdues the raw textures of the original to generate an understated rendition, whereas get slow founder deep mariano takes it down a percussive route where an infectious rhythm is accompanied by dub inspired synths. finally, ‘calling again’ is a sensual deep house cut featuring the vocals of sophie taylor, known for her collaboration with mathias kaden, among many others.

uk house veteran phil asher arrives on rekids with the latest project in his storied career, a collaboration with emergent london poet & musician james massiah. having chanced upon him a performance during a fiona bevan presents night at dalstons servants jazz quarters, asher immediately approached massiah about a possible collaboration: as soon as i heard james i knew i had to work with him. his poetry is infectious, textured & interesting. time & space took years to imagine but 25 minutes to write. it took james approximately the same amount of time to lay his poem down. asher approached matt edwards with the results, and the time & space ep was confirmed for release on rekids: two original cuts of futuristic house emboldened by massiahs electrifying street poetry, and a reprise version of the title track which steps away from the dancefloor to bring the lyrical content into sharper focus

ian blevins is from england but hes quite the dude. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, meet the happy beast named hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria goosebumps guaranteed. on side b, welcome aunt poly cools us down a little bit stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 all to a relaxed tempo. blevins debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. these two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

following the release of the ‘extraction’ and ‘hydraulic pressure’ 12”s earlier this year, adventice – the incendiary collaboration between dj deep and roman poncet, returns to tresor. while taking the groove up quite a few notches, and as per its two predecessors, ‘exsurgence’ unfolds in three different versions around a common theme.
the ‘main mix’ opens into hammering chords yet taking a delicate turn into an synth-heavy refrain. on the flip, the ‘reduced mix’ follows the same composition while playful and cinematic as the use of hihats add a skip to your step and pick up the pace. the ‘percussive mix’ and its rapid drum patterns, exude a fragrance of vocals triggering endless soundscapes.
with this new three track single, dj deep and roman poncet deliver a fierce package, another warning for what is still to come for the duo.

bad animal animal is a label devoted to underground house and techno with an approach that welcomes experimentation but never loses sight of the dancefloor. set up by alland byallo and kenneth scott it has already released music from influential producers including smash tv, xosar, mosca, dop and varoslav along with many others. now on its tenth release, label boss kenneth scott scott marks his second appearance on the label with this new ep consisting of two tracks. one original track entitled if the rain stops these ruthless acts plus a remix from benedikt frey.

phonica white returns with two extended cuts from their mainstay artist iori. monsoon & rainfall mark ioris 5th contribution to the label and it may be his best yet. monsoon on the a-side is a deeply hypnotizing piece of dub techno thats destined to cause dance floor destruction. steady kicks & toms open the track up before a relentless downpour of intricate percussion and low-end stabs lock you in for the track’s 10 minute duration definitely one for the long nights in dark rooms. the b-side is a calming contrast to the a side storm. deep and meditative, rainfall comprises sparse modulating synth keys coupled with a bouncy rhythm section and airy spaced-out sound effects that create a dreamy atmosphere. this is iori on top form.

schuko ep is the second release from the lyon (france) based label aiia recordings, which without surprise is still speaking about techno. the release is signed by the german duo schutzkontakt, with one member from dualit, who uses violent and reverbering kicks on konter and latenz, completed by a deep and sweet melody on frage, whether by different layers of indus samples. the most relevant feeling by listening this four-track ep is that it brings you between hard and soft moments, but still in a mighty state of mind, thanks to the intensity put by schutzkontakt in schuko ep. even if everything slacken when zyllinder comes with its more groovy and acid rhythms after the two precedent techno-indus tracks.

releasing our sixth vinyl release we came to a conclusion that fresh juice and lunar station are profiling themselves into two strong vinyl releases thematics on baile musik.

david meiser debuts on afu limited with -discipline for the masses-, an ep with a clear message for the upcoming generations of techno followers: take risks. innovate. get out of trends. . two stunning solid tracks composed of dirty and sharped analog sounds. meiser s breaks the trendy techno sounds to bring to the scene his own thing. the ep counts with two exceptional remixers: the horrorist and radical g, two of the artists with more character and personality in the techno scene who take the originals to their own terrain.

in the beginning of 1991 marius kuilenberg and maarten van der vleuten teamed up together and recorded two eeps for djax, *magic moments* and *...gives you central house*. marius being a dj with a great feeling for production and with a large collection of samples and maarten being a musician/technician with an own studio, turned out to be a good combination. after the two releases mentioned above, marius and maarten split up. marius focused on dj-ing only and maarten continued working as major malfunction on his own.

the idea that france once had a genius and let him go to california where he was more welcome and appreciated than in paris is, in the digital area, a trivial issue. every single web entrepreneur heads towards the silicon valley to develop his ideas. during the 70’s, this was less ordinary. back then, it was another area, music, which witnessed the departure of a very talented guy for the united states, a country that quickly understood he was a star. marc cerrone, a trained drummer and disco phenomenon who sold more albums than many other artists put together, saw his career magnified by america but also slightly twisted by france which quickly reduced him to a style, disco music, without trying to understand who he was and how relevant his talent was. his path went through two phases, two complementary moves.

* a pioneer of his own vision of the uk sound, peverelist transforms hodges amor fati in to a signature writhing mesmeric groove whilst on the flip side hodge irons out bruces * tilikum* into a booming, epic late night tool.

shortly after his first ep on dnuos ytivil, sub-division of bristol imprint livity sound, simo cell, neo-parisian and nantes native, puts his second release out on fragil musique. on this one, the young producer asserts his bass-tainted electro influences. highly skilled and very technical dj, but above all open to bridges between genres and eras, the record feels like he conceived it for his own club usage. on the a side, two subtle twin tracks, -reading rashid- and -soko ban-. cycling melodies and hypnotic pads sketch two bass outlines, as simple as effective, that seem perfectly fit for switching from a stripped down techno track to an old jungle weapon. on the flip, hit track -meteor racer- is surprising. a rawer and more stripped down electro piece that lifts the veil a bit more on the young producers talent. those four brilliantly crafted track definitely place simo cell among the french newcomers to watch closely.
